Born in the Chicago suburbs, she graduated from Loyola University New Orleans with her B.A. in Classical Studies and from University of Haifa with her M.A. in Maritime Civilizations. While there she wrote for Haaretz, focusing her on history and archaeology within Israel and outside. She subsequently returned to Chicago where she worked creating educational program for schools and museums.
Elizabeth is an avid supporter of Israel and has traveled extensively in the country and participated in several archaeological excavations there.
