El Paso Holocaust Museum & Study Center is pleased to announce its 2017 program series: “SPEAK OUT: a Time and a Place for Action” - a welcoming forum for positive community action, focusing on key contemporary issues, such as immigration, race relations, and anti-Semitism, through the 20/20 lens of history. “SPEAK OUT” will be a series of presentations, lectures, and panel discussion occurring throughout the year.
The first event in this program series will be on the historic formation and impact on the current Middle East. Dr. Sabri Ates, of Southern Methodist University, will present “The First World War and the Making of the Modern Middle East,” on Thursday, February 9, 6:00 pm. Dr. Ates will discuss the ongoing political, geographic, and cultural ramifications of the Great War on one of the most complex areas in the world. This event is free and open to the public.
