Community Learning and Leadership Group
Announces Mission for Year Two

CLAL will meet again at 7:15 PM on Tuesday, Oct 12 at the Jewish Federation.

Last year a $25,000 Federation grant was awarded to offer a nine-month program to create a core of informed activists. Those who accepted their nominations spent a year gaining confidence in many facets of personal and community leadership, incorporating Jewish values and insider information. Events included Ft Bliss and FBI briefings as well as talks by rabbis and other experts of international stature. All this culminated in a Siyuum in early June. Almost ninety percent of last year’s class has agreed to continue on for a second year and they are in the planning process.

On August 17 the group, with the help of Marc Levine from Los Angeles, formalized their mission and focus and formed a “sounding board.”

CLAL's mission is to inspire El Paso's Jewish leaders to promote community, dialogue, and involvement.

Probable events for the coming year, determined by online survey and at meetings are:

Continue learning opportunities
Continued activism in sponsoring organizations
Social events and Jewish celebrations
Explore the meaning of “community.”
Work on creating a community-wide vision
Create a president’s council
Present community-wide forums on broad interest topics
Invite others to learn more about community needs.
