JFCS: A perpetual mitzvah

… and a “go to” agency in El Paso when it comes to reaching out a helping hand to anyone in need

JFCS is recognized in the community for its outreach to anyone in need. 

  • Involved in numerous collaboratives whose member organizations serve the most financially needy in El Paso 
  • Called on frequently by clients, community members, or other agencies for either direct assistance or information, referral, and consultation

JFCS provides an array of counseling and social services on a continuum.

  • Conducts all business in a confidential, respectful manner
  • Offers presentations and staff development on a variety of topics
  • Delivers quality, affordable, bilingual mental health counseling sessions for a range of concerns
  • Coordinates stabilization efforts for crises
  • Consults regarding life-changing situations
  • Plays an important role in ensuring that area residents have food, clothing, and shelter

JFCS is involved directly in dealing with the social and emotional impact of El Paso events, such as the rapid growth of Fort Bliss.

  • Plays a key role with the Living in the New Normal project, whose emphasis is helping children cope with trauma and loss
  • Received a special grant from the Permian Basin Area Foundation to help military families with various adjustments

JFCS coordinates the city-wide Interfaith CarePartners program to provide friendly visits, telephone calls, and respite for homebound individuals and their caregivers.

  • Provides much of this service to B'nai Zion and Temple Mount Sinai
  • Received an award from the Rio Grande Council of Governments for service delivered through this project
  • Is a beneficiary of the Jewish Federation of El Paso.
